Here are this week’s must-reads:

+ “It’s a comfort to me that Mary and Joseph were anxious at times. On my hardest days, when my heart is overwhelmingly burdened with the suffering of those around me, I think of Mary’s heart, pondering, loving, consoling, and—at least once—anxious about her precious Son. Perhaps there is something in your life causing you anxiety… May Mary’s Immaculate Heart draw us all closer to her Son’s most Sacred Heart, and may we all find solace therein. Amen.” — Bonnie Engstrom, BIS

+ “Prayer sometimes feels dry or empty, an experience of “nada.” Yet God is present… when you have nothing to give, give Jesus that nothing too.” — Focus

+ “Of course we can pray anywhere at any time in any situation: in the car, standing in line at the grocery store, on our knees before the Blessed Sacrament in Adoration, as we weed the flowers, cook dinner, or walk the dogs. We are encouraged to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17), which necessitates praying everywhere and in every situation. But I do think that “a certain place” to pray is something worth exploring. It’s worth the effort to establish a space in your home that is designated prayer space, even if that’s just your favorite, comfy chair. Anoint it, bless it with holy water, have your priest bless it the next time he’s at your house. Create a place for prayer that everyone in the family recognizes and honors…” — Liz Kelly

Here’s what’s featured in my newsletter, The Collection, this week… A handful of pieces to help you create a prayer space at home! If you sign up, you’ll get instant access to all 3 October Collections 🙂

+ In one of St. Faustina’s exchanges with Jesus, she writes that he told her, “Do whatever is within your power to spread devotion to my mercy. I will makeup for what you lack.” (Entry 1074). I specifically loved reading His encouragement there — that He would make up for what she lacked. I imagine He does the same for us. And that encourages me to rest in what I can do — and what I can’t. To not try to make impossible things happen by my own strength, but to trust in His strength. And like St. Therese, another October saint, to accept our littleness.

+ “Offering God a decade or two (of the Rosary) in the midst of my daily life gives him something beautiful, even if I give it without my full, relaxed, undivided attention. I’m giving God some space in my day and filling it with words of praise for him.” — Dr. Edward Sri

+ “With the Rosary, the Christian people sit at the school of Mary and is led to contemplate the beauty on the face of Christ and to experience the depths of His love.” — St. JP II

+ “Sundays have become a sacred rhythm in our home, a day where we pause everything—the work, the worries, the endless tasks—and simply rest. For so long, I struggled with the idea of rest, especially as a mom and business owner. There’s always something that needs to be done, always a list running through my mind. But I’ve learned that rest is not just a break from the chaos, it’s a holy invitation to reconnect with God and be reminded that my worth is not in my doing but in my being.

“It’s easy to get caught up in the busyness, feeling like rest is indulgent or unproductive. But God, in His wisdom, commands us to rest. He modeled it on the seventh day, not because He needed it, but because He knew we would. And for me, rest has become more than just an escape from exhaustion—it’s a reminder of God’s gentle presence in my life.” — Brick House in the City

+ A daily prayer and affirmation (decalogue) of St. John XXIII: “Only for today, I will seek to live the livelong day positively without wishing to solve the problems of my life all at once… Only for today, I will firmly believe, despite appearances, that the good Providence of God cares for me as no one else who exists in this world…. Only for today, I will have no fears. In particular, I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful and to believe in goodness…”
