Our suffering can draw us to one another, uniting us and inspiring us to help one another. Our failings can humble us, slowly strangling our pride. Our weakness can gentle us, cultivating compassion. And all of it can remind us of how badly we need Christ. Not a one of us can save ourselves.
Brokenness can only do this, though, if we let God use it. To do that, we have to look at it. We have to acknowledge it. We have to reject the worldly idea that we’re good enough as we are, that we should just be our authentic selves…even when our authentic selves are jerks…and ask Christ for the help we need to heal.
