Here are this week’s must-reads:

+ “God does some of His best work behind the scenes. In the quiet. In unknown ways. Keep trusting Him, friend. Just because we can’t see Him moving doesn’t mean He isn’t moving.” (Lysa Terkeurst)

This makes me reflect on how little was written about St. Joseph in Scripture — how we never hear about anything he said in Scripture. Much of what was going on in St. Joseph’s life and heart is unrecorded. Things were happening behind the scenes, so to speak. But it was also clearly very powerful and transformative for him.

One of my favorite reflections about St. Joseph mentions that his silence in Scripture may be his most profound witness. Because as he sought God’s will, he desired it so much that he was willing to disappear into God’s mission. He didn’t seek out to be known or recognized. Instead, he served — silently, and in the background.

So let’s go back to that quote up above: “Just because we can’t see (God) moving doesn’t mean He isn’t moving… He does some of His best work behind the scenes.” Take heart if you’re working behind the scenes. He’s there with you. 💙

+ “In a world that expects us to do so much, prayer can easily seem like one more task on an already long list. But, prayer, at its most basic, is directing our minds and hearts to God. It is remembering that He is not a distant God, but a present God, always with us, always caring about us.” — Endow

+ “Look at the words of the Psalms; try to concentrate on them. Sometimes they’re just exactly what you would like to say to the Lord.” — Mother Angelica

+ “This job has been given to me to do. Therefore, it is a gift. Therefore, it is a privilege. Therefore, it is an offering I may make to God. Therefore, it is to be done gladly, if it is done for Him. Here, not somewhere else, I may learn God’s way. In this job, not in some other, God looks for faithfulness.” — Elisabeth Elliot

+ “We think about God’s will for our life being an occupation, but maybe it’s more about a heart position. Maybe it’s less about a plan (we’re trying to figure out) and it’s more about His presence being the plan…” — Mike Donehey

+ “People say God’s in control. But God is the most uncontroling person I’ve ever met in my life. He has no desire to control me. He always wants to walk hand in hand with me. He always asks before He commands. He is so honoring of my freedom, He reverences my freedom. You can trust Him. You’re not going to believe how unspeakably trustworthy He is, but He is trustworthy.” — Fr. Columba Jordan

+ “We fast in order to feast well.” — Cecilia Blackwell

+ “Marriage is a real personal transformation from ‘me’ to ‘you’ and ‘us,’ where one spouse ‘dies’ to themself to find themself ‘risen’ in the other spouse.” — Fr. Ivano Millico
